Kotak Vital Care Calculator
Kotak Vital Care Plan is modeled here as a standalone, non-linked critical illness health insurance plan from Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance. Unlike a rider that rides on top of a base life insurance policy, it is bought on its own: you choose a Sum Insured, and the plan pays that entire amount as a single lump sum the moment you are diagnosed with one of the covered critical illnesses and survive the required survival period. There is no maturity payout if no claim is made - it is a pure protection plan, so premiums are typically much lower than a savings-linked policy for the same cover.
This calculator estimates the annual premium, total premiums payable, and critical illness benefit using illustrative morbidity rates modeled on the shape of standalone critical illness pricing. It does not reproduce Kotak Life's official benefit illustration - always confirm exact figures with your policy document or a Kotak Life advisor before making a purchase decision.
Annual Premium
The annual premium is priced per ₹1,000 of Sum Insured, using a rate that rises steeply with Age at Entry (critical-illness morbidity risk is not linear with age), then loaded for smoking status and the cover level you choose:
Rate per Mille rises in bands from 0.8 at age 25 or below to 13.5 by age 65. Smoker Loading is 1.25× for smokers and 1.0× for non-smokers. Cover Loading is 1.0× for the Standard cover level (23 listed illnesses) and 1.20× for the Comprehensive cover level (40 listed illnesses, including early/minor-stage conditions such as early-stage cancer and angioplasty).
The premium is level - it is fixed for the whole Premium Payment Term at the rate corresponding to your Age at Entry, and does not rise as you get older.
Premium Payment Term
You can pay premiums for the same duration as the Policy Term ("Regular Pay"), or opt for a shorter, flat Limited Pay term of 10 or 15 years (which must be less than the Policy Term you choose), while cover continues for the full Policy Term either way:
Critical Illness Benefit
If you are diagnosed with any one of the covered critical illnesses and survive the survival period, the full Sum Insured is paid out as a single lump sum:
Cover then ceases - either on payout of a claim, or at the end of the Policy Term, whichever happens first. There is no benefit payable if the Policy Term completes with no claim made.
Waiting Period and Survival Period
Two conditions apply to every claim:
- Waiting Period: no claim is payable for an illness first diagnosed within 90 days of the policy's date of commencement.
- Survival Period: after diagnosis, you must survive 30 days before the benefit becomes payable.
Maximum Cover Age
Age at Entry plus Policy Term must not exceed 75 years, the maximum age up to which cover can continue:

Worked example
Suppose you are 35 years old, a non-smoker, choose a Sum Insured of ₹20,00,000, a Policy Term of 20 years, Regular Pay, and Standard cover.
- Rate per Mille at age 35: 1.3
- Annual Premium: (₹20,00,000 / 1000) × 1.3 × 1.0 (non-smoker) × 1.0 (standard) = ₹2,600
- Premium Payment Term: 20 years (Regular Pay)
- Total Premiums Payable: ₹2,600 × 20 = ₹52,000
- Critical Illness Benefit: ₹20,00,000, payable as a lump sum on a valid claim, subject to the waiting and survival periods
- Cover Age: 35 + 20 = 55 years
