ICICI Pru Linked Accidental Death and Disability Rider Calculator

ICICI Pru Linked Accidental Death and Disability Rider (UIN: 105A043V03) is a unit-linked, non-participating rider that can be attached to an eligible ICICI Prudential ULIP base plan. It pays an additional benefit - over and above whatever the base policy already pays - if the life assured dies as a result of an accident, or suffers an Accidental Total and Permanent Disability (ATPD). This calculator gives you an illustrative estimate of the yearly rider charge and the benefits payable - it does not replace the insurer's official rider terms, Customer Information Sheet or Benefit Illustration.

Who this rider is for

Anyone who already holds, or is buying, an eligible ICICI Pru ULIP base plan and wants extra financial protection specifically against accidents - on top of the life cover the base plan already provides. Because it is a linked rider, its cost is not paid as a separate cheque; it is recovered by cancelling units from the policyholder's fund value at each rider charge date, alongside the base plan's own charges.

What the rider pays

  • Accidental Death Benefit: if death occurs due to an accident during the rider term, the full Rider Sum Assured is paid as an immediate lump sum, in addition to whatever the base plan pays on death.
  • Accidental Total and Permanent Disability (ATPD) Benefit: if the life assured suffers a qualifying total and permanent disability due to an accident, the Rider Sum Assured is paid out in equal annual instalments (rather than as one lump sum), and future rider charges are typically waived once the claim is admitted, since there is no further need to keep paying for cover that has already been claimed.

Only one of these two benefits is ever paid under a single rider term - either the accidental death benefit, or the ATPD benefit, never both for the same life.

What drives the rider charge

Because accident risk is largely unrelated to age-driven health decline, the yearly rider charge rises only mildly with age compared to a pure mortality-based cover. The bigger driver is occupation class - people in physically hazardous or manual occupations are statistically more exposed to accidents than people in office-based roles, so the insurer applies a loading:

  • Class 1 (Low Risk): office and desk-based occupations - no loading.
  • Class 2 (Medium Risk): field or supervisory roles with some on-site exposure - moderate loading.
  • Class 3 (High Risk): manual or hazardous occupations - the highest loading.
Annual Rider Charge=Rider Sum Assured1000×Rate per 1,000×Occupation Loading\text{Annual Rider Charge} = \frac{\text{Rider Sum Assured}}{1000} \times \text{Rate per 1{,}000} \times \text{Occupation Loading}

Worked example

A 35-year-old office employee (Class 1) opts for a Rider Sum Assured of ₹20,00,000 alongside a ULIP base plan, for a 20-year Cover Term. The calculator applies the illustrative tabular rate for age 35 with no occupation loading to estimate the first year's rider charge, then repeats the calculation for every subsequent policy year (the rate rises slightly each year as the insured ages) to build a year-wise charge schedule and a running total over the full 20-year term. It also shows the ₹20,00,000 lump sum payable on accidental death, and the same ₹20,00,000 payable in 5 equal yearly instalments of ₹4,00,000 each if an ATPD claim is admitted instead.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your age and the Cover Term (in years) you want the rider to run for.
  2. Enter the Rider Sum Assured you want to opt for.
  3. Select your Occupation Class.
  4. Submit to see the first-year and total rider charge, the accidental death lump sum, the ATPD instalment benefit, and a year-wise charge schedule.

This tool is for illustration only. Actual rider charges depend on the insurer's underwriting, occupation risk assessment, medical factors and applicable taxes, and can differ materially from this estimate - always confirm the exact figure with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance or your policy document before buying this rider.
